The PAWDCAST:

Vanderpump Dogs, Shark Tank
& Dr. Kevin's MOM ❤️

008 PAWDCAST - Celebrating Pet Mamas - (run time: 24 mins)

This one is special.

Dr. Kevin invites his mom to co-host, which means we finally get the full story. The scoop on young Dr. Kevin from the best source!

What he was like as a kid.
What she noticed early.
What she knew before he did.

It’s funny in that very specific way only moms can be. And yes, there are a few moments that will get you.

We also spend time with Vanderpump Dogs, who introduce us to Delilah. She’s 13. She still needs a home. No spin, no angle, just a reminder that love doesn’t run on a timeline.

And then there’s Fresh Patch. Their story starts the way a lot of good ideas do, with a problem at the worst possible time. But, this one ended on Shark Tank! What they built is so incredibly simple, useful, and you’ll love how they help a lot of pets and the people who care for them.

Three conversations. Same theme. We think you’ll LOVE this episode!

 📸  It’s Pet Selfie Time!

There’s a difference between taking a photo and knowing what to capture.

Pet moms know (and so do Pet papas!)

It’s the look. The timing. The “no one else would have noticed that but me” moment. Moms (and dads) grab the camera and attempt to capture how much LOVE they feel at that moment.

We see it every month.

And if we’re being honest, some of these photos are ridiculous in the best way. Mid-zoomie. Side-eye. Mid yawn. We know that Pet Mamas and Papas are right behind the camera! We feel (and share) your love.

Thank you for sharing your fur babies with all of us.

Smell

Let's Talk About

...That Smell

Sometimes life happens. Dirt happens. Breath happens. Choices are made outside that we don’t fully understand.

But smell is also information.

Bad breath? Often dental.
Persistent odor? Could be skin or diet.
Sudden change? Worth paying attention to.

Pet moms are among the first to notice, not because they’re looking for problems, but because they’re paying attention.

And when things do need a reset, it’s nice when the process of eliminating odors can feel like an actual treat.

Our friends at Sand + Paws do a special job of transforming odors into good ones. Good ingredients, good scents, nothing overcomplicated. There’s a small thank you waiting inside the Lounge if you want to take a sniff (you’re welcome, pet mamas).

Blueberry Bites (for Cats & Dogs)
 Ingredients:

Ingredients:
½ cup organic blueberries (mashed)
handful blueberries (whole)
1 cup organic oat flour
¼ cup organic pumpkin puree
1 tablespoon organic coconut oil
1–2 tablespoons water

Instructions:

  1. Ask your human to preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Combine everything but whole blueberries and mix until soft dough forms.
  3. Gently fold in handful of whole blueberries.
  4. Roll dough into small pieces.
  5. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 18-22 minutes until lightly golden.
  7. Cool completely before serving.

Serve with love. They’ll love them. You’ll feel good about it. Everyone wins.

Always consult your primary care veterinarian if your pet has food sensitivities or allergies.

Touch

Earn that Hug

Let’s be honest.

We want to hug our pets more than they want to be hugged.

And sometimes they tolerate it. Which is not the same thing.

And sometimes we miss the signal because, well, life is happening. Your cat decides to show off her tail in the middle of a Zoom meeting. Your dog happily greets you at the door as you’re balancing a coffee in one hand and a birthday cake in the other. We’ve all been there.

Learning the language, and the timing, of a hug is where things get interesting. It requires patience, awareness, and devotion. You already have all of that.

We’ve all heard of animal “whisperers,” the ones who seem to have magical abilities to communicate with dogs, cats, horses. In truth, they’ve simply mastered the art of listening. They’ve earned trust, slowly and consistently, until communication becomes something that is felt more than spoken.

Our moms are basically “us-whisperers,” aren’t they?

If you want to earn that delicious hug from your pet, try this:

Pause.
Let them come to you.
Stay still long enough for them to decide.

There’s a moment, if you don’t rush it, where they choose.

And when they do, when they settle into you, lean in, or simply stay…

it lands differently.

That’s not a hug you took.

That’s one you were given.

Happy Birthday!
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Friday, May 1st is considered one of the most auspicious days of the year in the Tibetan calendar, known as Vesak Day.

It is said that the impact of our actions, attention, and presence is amplified by 100 million on this day. Whether you take that literally or simply as a reminder, it offers an interesting idea:

What if small, intentional moments mattered more than we think?

A quiet walk.
A calm interaction.
A moment of patience.

Pet moms tend to live this way already.

Taurus Dogs
Taurus dogs are creatures of comfort and quiet devotion. They find their spot in the house and return to it every single day. They notice routines, expect them, and feel most at ease when life is steady and predictable. Their loyalty runs deep. Honor their rhythm. Create spaces where they can truly feel safe. When they do, they become one of the most grounding, steady presences in your life.

Taurus Cats
Taurus cats are deeply connected to their senses and their surroundings. They know where the light falls, which blanket feels best, and when the home is finally still. They move at their own pace and choose connection intentionally. When a Taurus cat settles beside you, it is quiet, meaningful trust. They thrive in calm, consistent environments where they can feel at ease. Create peace around them and allow closeness to unfold naturally. In return, they offer a presence that is steady, soothing, and deeply comforting.

Ask Your Q

Thank you for submitting your questions! Dr. Kevin, our head Palms & Paws veterinarian, is here to answer them – big and small – from both humans & pets.

Q: Sarah S. asks
“Every day I clean my cat’s litter box and wonder about microplastics in litter. Are there healthier alternatives?”

Dr. Kevin:
Great question, Sarah. So great that we wrote an entire Pet Tips article on it. We break down litter types, litter boxes, and what actually matters most for your cat’s health and comfort.

Let us know what you think.

Q: Michael asks
“My dog always has consistently bad breath. When, if ever, should I be concerned?”

Dr. Kevin:
Regular dental checkups with your primary care veterinarian are just as important as dental visits are for us humans. Bad breath is common, but it’s not something to ignore. Changes in breath are a great indicator that it’s time to have your vet take a look at those  pearly whites. Daily dental care, including brushing or using vet-approved products, can make a meaningful difference, too. Our friends, Oxyfresh, actually offer an easy solution (and a nice discount to our members).
