Sounds Like Love

Curious how to create a soothing soundscape for your pet?

At Palms & Paws, we believe care shows up in the smallest details— From the tone of your voice to the rhythm of your home. Creating a sound-savvy sanctuary doesn’t take much. Just curiosity, kindness, and a willingness to listen more closely.

Your pet already hears the love in your voice.

Now, let them feel it in the air around them, too.

Why Sound Matters

Our pets experience the world differently than we do.

Where we might barely notice the hum of the fridge or a dramatic TV show, dogs and cats are constantly processing sound. Their ears perk, flick, or flatten long before we’ve registered a shift in energy.

Sound, for them, isn’t just background noise. It’s information. It’s emotion.

And sometimes, it’s stress.

The good news? With just a little thoughtfulness, we can turn their soundscape into a cozy retreat.

A Real-Life Pawse: The Squirrel & The Nut

The Squirrel & The Nut

While producing our first video for Palms & Paws PLUS—a playful (and short) tale called The Squirrel & The Nut—we originally used a fairly dramatic soundtrack.

Enter Dr. Kevin (and his calm, wise voice): “Let’s think about how dogs and cats will hear this.”

We re-tuned the video to include gentle nature sounds, soft animal noises, and a sweet melodic theme that’s as tail-waggingly lovely as it is sound-safe.

What Science Says About Sound & Stress

Research confirms what most pet lovers already sense:

Dogs relax more with music featuring slower tempos and lower frequencies (think classical or reggae).

Cats respond best to sounds tuned to their vocal ranges and purring rhythms—music made just for them.

Shelters and clinics now use curated playlists to reduce heart rates and calm anxiety in animals under stress.

So yes—pressing “play” on the right kind of music may be one of the simplest and kindest gifts you give your pet today.

3 Gentle Tips to Make Your Home Sound-Savvy

Think of these as gentle cues—not rules.

Life gets loud, and that’s okay.
This is just about being mindful of what our pet family hears every day—and offering small comforts when we can.

1. Listen With Them

Watch how your pet reacts to everyday sounds: The vacuum. The dishwasher. Your favorite podcast. Do they stretch out and settle—or leave the room entirely? Their body language is your best feedback.

2. Make Soothing Swaps

Lower the volume where you can, and explore calming alternatives:

  • Soft music with slower tempos, or species-specific playlists
  • White noise machines or soft ambient sounds (rain, waves, birdsong)
  • Your own voice, reading or speaking gently

3. Offer a Quiet Corner

Set up a little sanctuary: a cozy bed, lower lighting, and peaceful sound. It doesn’t need to be fancy. Just a space where your pet knows it’s okay to rest and recharge—especially helpful during storms, fireworks, or busy days.

Love Sounds Like This

At Palms & Paws, we believe leadership begins with love— And sometimes, that love sounds like rain instead of reality TV. Like gentle music instead of kitchen chaos. Like your pet sighing deeply, curled up in their favorite corner of the world.

What does your home sound like to your pet?

It might be time to press play.
